Heal Your Diastasis Recti by following these 4 steps.
First off, lets discuss what exactly Diastsais Recti IS:
Diastasis Recti can happen to anyone! Male or female, postpartum or not. However, t is most prevalent in postpartum women.
Our bodies are amazing and made to stretch and adapt, however sometimes too much stretching happens without not enough toning resulting in a gap down our stomach, which is nothing more than our fascial tissue that has become over stretched.
I have a complete in depth blog post Here that details Diastasis.
Q: What are exercise guidelines for Diastsis Recti?
A: There is a lot of confusing information out there for diastasis recti. It is important to note that healing your DR is a whole body issue, it is more about HOW you move than WHAT moves you do.
So all those moves you see on pinterest and instagram…its not that they are BAD for you, but 95% of these ‘influencers’ are not explaining the deeper issue at hand. So if you start doing these moves incorrectly you could prolong healing or make your diastasis worse.
If you have a diastasis, the best place to start is understanding how your core pressure system works so you do not put more pressure on your core than it can handle. That is your one exercises guideline, if you have diastsasis recti.
Q: What are the 4 steps to healing Diastasis?
A: There are 4 Steps to Healing your DR:
1. Connect to your Breath
2. Deep Core Connection
3. Everyday Movements
4. Movement Progression .
The first place you need to start is breathing through your diaphragm. Once this is established you can make a deep core connection so your fascia can get oxygen and begin to heal.
Once those two things are accessible for you, you add them to your everyday life (remember the whole body issue) and once that feels good you can continue on to your movement progressions in your workout routines.
