Healthy Meals for (weight loss) in 30 Minutes or Less

Looking for healthy meals for weight loss  that you can create in under 30 minutes?

Let me help you break this down so you can achieve your weight loss/postpartum weight loss/new year goals & not lose a lot of time preparing your meals.

You do not have to be a gourmet chef to create healthy meals in 30 minutes or less.  Will eating healthy help you lose weight? Ideally, yes, eating healthy will support weight loss but first you need to understand what eating healthy actually means & how to use that towards your weight loss goals.

Will Eating Healthy Help You Lose Weight:

The first step to eating healthy is to understand what ‘healthy’ means. Being healthy can be interpreted in many different ways. The word HEALTHY if looked up in the dictionary is stated as: 1. the general condition of the body or mind with reference to soundness and vigor & 2. soundness of body or mind; freedom from disease or ailment.

As  you see here the term HEALTHY does not even specify food. So we can conclude from this that healthy meals could mean creating meals with food that bring about a general condition of the body & mind that is free from disease or ailment, yes?

With that being said let us define the term WHOLE FOOD. If you look this up in the dictionary it states; 1. food with little or no refining or processing and containing no artificial additives or preservatives; natural or organic food. From this definition we can conclude that WHOLE FOOD is food that is not processed. One way I like to define this is food that is coming from the ground or has a mother. It is not created in a factory or made by man.

I want to define one more word for you so that you are not left questioning. Let’s define the term DIET 1. a particular selection of food, especially as designed or prescribed to improve a person’s physical condition or to prevent or treat a disease.

And while we are at it here is the definition of DIETING: 1. to regulate the food of, especially in order to improve the physical condition.

Now that we have those definitions we can come to an answer for “will eating healthy help you lose weight?” Eating a diet(a selection of food to improve your condition) that is rich in whole foods is going to help you improve your health and limit disease. In order to lose weight you need to eat less food than what you burn. Also know as a caloric deficit.

A healthy diet is part of losing weight but it is not the entire picture. The simple science of weight loss is calories in vs calories out. You must be eating less than what you burn & fueling with enough of the right micro-nutrients and macro-nutriets.

I want to be clear here and express that a ‘diet’ or ‘dieting’ does not in any way shape or form say that you need to deprive yourself of things or limit certain food groups. Dieting is simply a process of regulating your food intake (knowing how much of what) to eat in order to improve your physical condition so that you can become healthy.

OK great! Let’s get the part about the Meals in 30 minutes or less.

Depending on what your goal is for wanting to eat healthy whole foods you will first need to figure out how much of what macronutrient to eat. The book Thinner Leaner Stronger by Micheal Matthews is a great place to start. He also has free resources on his website for you to enter your information in so you can get a free meal plan and workouts etc. His book will provide the science behind the method and you know here at the Maternal Method it’s all about the science! This macro calculator is the best for figuring out you macronutrient needs.

Meal Ideas in 30 Minutes or Less:

At each meal you should be eating quality protein, vegetables, whole food starches (potatoes, rice, etc) and quality whole food fats. It does not matter how many meals you eat, just keep in mind the less meals you eat, the larger your portions need to be at each meal in order to adequately eat enough healthy food for weight loss.

Breakfast Ideas:

  • Omelets
  • Hard Boiled Eggs with a side of veggie sticks
  • Protein Shake
  • Toast with scrambled eggs & veggies
  • You can prepare eggs and veggies ahead of time in order to grab and go (even if you are a stay at home mom! Prepped meals for yourself guarantee healthy food for weight loss in a pinch)

Lunch Ideas;

  • Protein with vegetables  & healthy starch.
  • So a large salad with any combination of chicken, eggs (HB), tuna are all great choices.
  • Leftover soup is a great choice, add in whatever macro you need more off.
  • I personally enjoy eating a large bed of greens with my protein prepped for the week and adding a carb.

Dinner Ideas:

  • Protein (Steak, Hamburg, Fish, Chicken etc) with more veggies and starch with healthy fats. It’s so simple to prep these things at the beginning of the week so you can plug and play your meals.
  • Here is a great resource for recipes that I use each week to plan out my meals for the week;
  • The Real Food RD’s
  • Half Baked Harvest

As you can see it is so simple to plan healthy (whole food) meals for weight loss in 30 minutes or less.

***If you are pregnant you want to adjust your meal plan in the free source as Maintenance calories. (Use this calculator to determine your maintenance calories) The same would be true for you if you are postpartum and breastfeeding. If you are not breastfeeding you can eat in a calorie deficit (1lbs loss) as prescribed. If you are breastfeeding you can begin to decrease calories slowly at the 6 month mark when your baby begins to eat solid foods. Conclusion

WILL EATING HEALTHY HELP LOSE WEIGHT?

We learned the definition of healthy:  the general condition of the body or mind with reference to soundness and vigor & 2. soundness of body or mind; freedom from disease or ailment.

We also reviewed the definition for whole food: 1. food with little or no refining or processing and containing no artificial additives or preservatives; natural or organic food.

It is determined that healthy is a state of being that is brought about by eating quality whole foods in the right quantity which refers to eating the right amount of foods based on your calorie needs.

We determined that healthy meals are made up of a diet ( a particular selection of food, especially as designed or prescribed to improve a person’s physical condition or to prevent or treat a disease. ) of whole foods that sustain our fuel our bodies while limiting disease.

With that being said, when you consider healthy meals, meals that consist of quality whole foods and when you eat in a caloric deficit healthy eating will support your weight loss.
