Today I want to share with you the extremely easy concept of oil cleansing and how to get rid of postpartum acne.
After having 5 back to back pregnancies, my skin really started to take a turn for the worst during my third pregnancy. And mind you my skin was honestly always very clear and I never struggled with horrible teen acne, so the fact I was in my 20’s and early 30’s all of a sudden breaking out all the time was extremely embarrassing! I just wanted to know how to get rid of the postpartum acne once and for all.
What Causes Postpartum Acne/Skin Irritation?
Just as hormones cause acne during your teen years, whelp the same goes for acne that beings to pop up during pregnancy or postpartum. Skin problems after pregnancy typically act up because your progesterone and estrogen become very unbalanced which leads to increased sebum (oil) production and clogged pores on your skin; which is causing the postpartum acne. You could be experiencing more clogged pores, cystic acne, specifically on the chin and cheeks. You could also be experiencing increased red bumps all over your cheeks which eventually turn into acne or just don’t go away.
The increase in acne does not mean that there is always an increase in bacteria on your face, it means the hormone balance is causing extra oil and more breakouts.
Personally I was experiencing the cystic acne on my chin and small red bumps. The cystic acne was the most embarrassing, I would continue to have this ONE enormous pimple on my chin for weeks and weeks at a time, I just wanted to know how to get rid of this postpartum acne!
If you are breastfeeding and then stop you may also experience the change of your skin at this time. Unfortunately after pregnancy our skin is more than likely to change resulting in a need to change how you care for it. Everyone’s skin is different so finding a routine that works for YOU is essential. I researched the benefits of oil cleansing thoroughly before giving it a try, and ya’ll…again WHY did I wait so darn long to help get rid of my postpartum acne.
What are the Benefits of Oil Cleansing?
When I first started researching cleaner, better skin care, (aka how to get ride of my postpartum acne!) I came across oil cleansing. Hmmm…wouldn’t using oil just make my current oily skin even worse?! Well I certainly did my research and read ALL the reviews before I tried it because I was desperate. I wanted something that WORKED, that was safe for my skin, safe for my babies and would help get rid of this postpartum acne. So what’s the deal with it right?
- Oil Cleansing is actually a very old method of cleansing the skin (shocker!) It is good for any type of skin, dry, oily or combination. It deeply cleans the pores while keeping your skin’s natural moisture balance intact.
- Oil cleansing is truly the only way to keep your skin radiant, clean, balanced and healthy.
- Several skin issues that individuals have, specifically women struggling with acne during the pregnant and postpartum periods can be solved by the simple act of oil cleansing.
How to Oil Cleanse Tutorial.
Here is a video I made for you on the simple act of oil cleansing; see how EASY it is!
Oil cleansing is done in the evenings only, in the mornings you only need to splash your face with warm water to rinse it and feel fresh. Over cleansing is a huge issue today and you will find that when you cleanse at night your skin will be healthy and balanced come the morning time.
- Put a nickel to quarter size drop of oil in your palm
- Rub hands together and immediately begin to rub in upward strokes, circles on your face.
- Rub over eyes to cleanse any eye make-up off,
- Continue to do this for a minute or more
- Once complete rub in downward strokes on your neck
- Wet a clean wash cloth with warm/hot water, place over your face until cloth becomes cool and wipe off excess oil and dirt.
- And now feel amazing and refreshed!
Trust the Process
Just as there is a process to detoxing in anything, you must trust the process and allow your skin to detoxify in the impurities; trust me the wait will be worth it! There is often a purging process, same if you have switched to all natural deodorant by the way, and it could take up to one month for the process to be complete. Your skin needs to release all the toxins and build that has taken place over the years.
If after a month you are still not seeing results, the company that I use is excellent and they will personally help you figure out a solution for your skin.
DIY Self Cleansing Oil, yay or nay?
The issue with making it yourself (and maybe you found a solution that works for you YAY!) is that our skin is not the same as everyone else. What is working for Sally Sue over on Pinterest might not be what is going to work for YOUR combination skin. Oil cleansing DOES work for all skin types when the correct oil rations are used, and Modere has done that for you. Their cleansing blends are based on research, science, third party testing & double blind studies. Modere CellProof skin line has several recieved awards for their skin product such as Clean Beauty Award, Green & Gorgous & Best Premium Anti-Aging. Read more here.
In Conclusion.
Oil cleansing is truly the only way to keep your skin radiant, clean, balanced and healthy.
AS a new mother the last thing you want to deal with is feeling like a pre-teen because your skin starts going all whacky. You have enough to deal with as a new mother and skin shouldn’t have to be one of them!
Of course skin health goes DEEP. Your diet and staying well hydrated effects your skin also; so be sure to take an overhaul in that area as well if you are struggling with pregnant or postpartum skin flare ups.
Overall, several skin issues that individuals have, specifically women struggling with acne during the pregnant and postpartum periods can be solved by the simple act as oil cleansing.
