How to stress less  & be more present as a busy mom

These 5 Top tips to help you stay mindful and reduce new mom stress as you navigate your new journey of motherhood!

  1. READ MORE!

If you are a busy mother, you probably just read this and thought I do not have time to read! Who the heck do you think I am?! Honestly, I feel you, I don’t have time either however what I’ve found is that by reading positive books that support my journey in motherhood it helps me to reduce new mom stress, be more mindful, more present & reduces anxiety in my everyday life.

The change that will take as you spend 5-10 minutes a day reading will open a whole new door to your motherhood journey. Reading will help you see that there IS beauty in imperfect, messy side of motherhood. That motherhood does NOT have to be perfect, there will always be a To Do list, so enjoy more time with your babies!

Here is a list of some that have made a large impact in my own motherhood journey, and if you feel that you really don’t have time to read a few minutes, you can always try Audible.

Here is a VIDEO where I share all about it

Journaling is another amazing way to let go of stress, fear & anxiety. This Postpartum Journal will walk you through the exact steps to create a self-care routine as well as a movement routine in your new role as mother.

2. MOVE YOUR BODY

It is a well known fact after many, many studies that exercise reduces stress. Therefore creating a movement routine as a mom will support and reduce new mom stress in your life.  Movement, or exercises,  can also reduce anxiety, depression, improve your mood and boost and self-esteem. mental health; which is ideal in decreasing anxiety and stress for you, the new mother. Moving your body is an instant boost to your brain.

Now as a new mother it can be extremely tempting to want to do extreme movement, go on a diet and keep up with all the fancy shmanchy new moms on Instagram. BUT don’t fall for that trap! You really need to recover from the inside out and that means proper, restrengthening movement. Some ideas for movement that you can do from birth until 3-4 months postpartum are:

  • Diaphragmatic Breathing
  • Deep Abdominal core work
  • Walking
  • Light yoga
  • Stretching

Setting aside 10-20 minutes each day for yourself & curating some some self-care time to do movement is extremely beneficial for you and your new baby, that will reduce new mom stress.

 3. HAVE FUN

Part of being a mom, is having fun, laughing at the confusion & chaos and joining your kids instead of resenting said situation. As mothers we tend to forget that our mothering ‘duties’ such as cleaning, cooking, paying bills, folding laundry, making phone calls & all the other things we do as mothers etc/ motherhood does not need to be in constant motion.

Its more fun and suitable to get down on level with your kiddos and just have fun, enter their world and forget about your to do list, it will still be there later, and you’ll feel much more relaxed in doing so. Reconnecting with your inner child and seeing the beauty in the mundane can help you to enjoy the world in a fresh new way. Playing and being present with your kids will help reduce new mom stress in your life.

 4. SLEEP MORE

We ALL know how cranky our kiddos become if they miss a nap, or are up too late and up to early the next morning. It may seem impossible in your current season of motherhood, maybe you have a newborn, to get more sleep but it makes a difference. If your kiddos nap, then by all means take 20 minutes to lie down and take a nap! Again, the To Do list is going to be there regardless, but when Momma is getting enough sleep everyone benefits.

Not only will sleep allow you to function better, it also will reduce cortisol in your body which could be contributing to weight gain.

 5. JUST SAY NO

You cannot be super mom to everyone so don’t even try! Maybe you have tried and realized it left you feeling deflated and gasping for air. Saying No, may make you feel guilty, but it should not. Learning when to say No is a work of art and it is not easy at first. However when you learn to say YES, to things you know you can follow through with and things that will not stress, or overwhelm you, it is a huge accomplishment!

IN CONCLUSION:

Navigating motherhood is no easy feat as it is different for everyone. Every baby has different needs, as every mother has different needs. However; if you take these few simple steps, I promise your journey will be that much sweeter and that much more enjoyable. Taking action with even one of these steps mentioned here will support your journey and help reduce new mom stress in your life.
